The August Lock uses a motorized drive to engage/disengage a standard deadbolt. The system relies on rotational force from the motor, transferred via a gearbox, to move the bolt. RF communication (typically Bluetooth/Wi-Fi) controls the lock. Power is provided by internal batteries (Lithium-Ion/Alkaline). Cold weather impacts battery impedance, reducing available current to the motor. Mechanical stress from door frame warping can increase friction on the bolt.
If the motor runs but the bolt doesn't move, try manually assisting the bolt while the motor is running. This can sometimes help overcome a minor mechanical obstruction and allow the lock to complete its cycle. Check the battery contacts for corrosion and clean them with isopropyl alcohol if necessary.
